Ministries, state institutions and organizations, natural and legal persons, and foundations, on condition that they get permission from our ministry in accordance with the law no 2683, article 26 of Code of Protection of Cultural and Natural Properties, may establish museums containing all kinds of movable cultural properties for their service subject or purpose.
In order to protect movable cultural properties, methods and terms of application, establishment, assignment, management, audit and supervision of private museums which are approved as state museum were determined by “Regulations on Private Museums and Supervision”.
Museums, which are approved to open with the result of an evaluation that takes the sufficiency of their quality and quantity and continuation of service in compliance with relevant legislation into account, may carry on their activity under the supervision of our Ministry.
As of 2023, there are 19 private museums that are under the supervision of our ministry in the province of İzmir.
