Protected Areas

PROTECTED AREAS OF İZMİR

The protected areas in İzmir Province are; 217,424 decares.

The distribution of these areas is as follows;

  • 8 nature parks,
  • 10 natural monuments,
  • 2 wildlife development sites,
  • 1 wetland of national importance


•NATURE PARK

1) Virgin Mary Nature Park

Since 2008, the area of 3,548 decares has been protected as a Natural Park.

Meryemana house located in the area and the nearby ancient city of Ephesus are the reasons for visiting.

Meryemana Nature Park is 82 km from İzmir and 12 km from Selcuk.

2 ) Flowering Nature Park

Since 2011 it has been protected as a Natural Park. This is a grade 1 natural sit area.

İzmir is 18 km from Çiçekli Nature Park, while Bornova is 9 km away.

Within the field; There are electricity, drinking and potable water in the field with countryside buffet, toilet, picnic units.

3) Efeoğlu Nature Park

Torbalı Yeşilköy area of 227 decares in 2011 was declared as a natural park.

İzmir is 30 km from Efeoğlu Nature Park, while Adnan Menderes Airport is 12 km away.

Within the field; There is electricity, drinking and potable water in the Nature Park, which has a rural buffet, toilet, picnic units.

4) Ekmeksiz Beach Nature Park

Resource Value; Sea, Forest, Archeology

The Natural Park was declared as a natural park in 2011.

Ekmeksiz Beach Nature Park 52 km from İzmir and 14 km to Seferihisar .

In the field; There is a bakery, buffet, wc, picnic units and tent place beside the country casino with sea view. Electricity, drinking and potable water is available in the area.

5 ) Gümüldür Nature Park

Resource Value; Sea

74 decares of land was declared as a Natural Park in 2011.

Gümüldür Nature Park is 64 km away from İzmir and 30 km from Menderes.

In the field; There are rural casinos (restaurants), bakeries, buffets, toilets, changing cabins, picnic units and camping and caravan accommodation with tents.

6) İzmir Karagöl Nature Park

Source value; Forest, Lake

850 m above sea level. altitude, 189 decare field since 2011 is the Natural Park.

Its 27 km to Karşyaka and 35 km to İzmir. The transportation route has many views of the Gulf of Izmir.

In the field, sportive angling, nature hiking, photo safari, botanical tourism, cycling tourism activities can be performed.

Also in the field; There is a lake restaurant, buffet, picnic units with lake view. Electricity, drinking and potable water is available.

7) Tanay Nature Park

303 decares of land was declared as Natural Park in 2011. This is a first degree Sit area.

Its 80 km to İzmir and 9 km to the fountain. Izmir-Çeşme motorway can be reached by a comfortable journey.

In the field; There are country-side casino, toilet, buffet, picnic units with sea view, electricity, drinking and utility water.

8) Yamanlar Mountain Nature Park

Source value; Forest

408 decares of land was declared as Natural Park in 2011. Yamanlar Mountain Nature Park 18 km from Karşıyaka.

The site meets the recreational needs of the people of Karşıyaka and Çiğli.



•MONUMENTS OF NATURE

1) Anatolian Chestnut Natural Monument: 2.5 decares of land located in Ödemiş district was declared as a Natural Monument in 1994.

2) Kunduracı Plane Nature Monument: A 1.5 decare area in Buca district was declared as a Natural Monument in 1994.

3) Taşdede Pırnal Oak Natural Monument: 1.5 decare area in Dikili district was declared as Natural Monument in 1994.

4) Teos Menengici Natural Monument: 1.5 decare area in Seferihisar district was declared as Natural Monument in 1994.

5) Ovacık Village Anatolian Chestnut Natural Monument: The 2.5 decare area in the Bayındır district was declared a Natural Monument in 1995.

6)Yarendede Fıstıkçamı Natural Monument : 2.5 decares of land located in Güzelbahçe district was declared as Natural Monument in 1995.

7) Yemişçi Plane Nature Monument: 2.5 decares of land located in Güzelbahçe district has been declared as Natural Monument.

8) Fıstıkçamı Natural Monument: 2.5 decares of land located in Güzelbahçe district was declared as a Natural Monument in 1995.

9) Women's Well Koca Menengici Natural Monument: The 2.5 decare area located in Foça district was declared as Natural Monument in 1995.

10) Dede Menengici Natural Monument: 1.0 decare area in Menemen district was declared as Natural Monument in 2003.



•WILDLIFE DEVELOPMENT AREAS

1) Selçuk Gebekirse Lake Wildlife Development Area: 5.453 decares of land located in Selçuk district was declared as Wildlife Development Area in 2006. Target type is water birds.

2) Bayındır Ovacık Wildlife Development Area: 57,889 decares of land located in Bayındır district was declared as Wildlife Development Area in 2006. Target type is roe .



•WETLANDS AND RAMSAR AREAS OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE

1) Wetland of Gediz Delta

İzmir Bird Sanctuary; The site, which is located in the Çiğli and Menemen districts of İzmir province, was declared as a 1st Degree Natural Protected Area in 1999. In 1998, it was included in the International Ramsar Convention. In 2005, Wetlands Conservation Areas were identified.

It is a 14,900 ha wetland consisting of saline and freshwater ecosystems, bays, saltwater and lagoons (dalyan) where Gediz River was formerly poured.

World's Largest Artificial Flamingo Reproduction Island; Delta in 2012 with the world's largest surface area of 6440 m2 construction of Türkiye's first artificial flamingo breeding island was held. Every year about 20,000 pairs of flamingo nests on the island.

Sea salt ponds operating in the Delta are also the habitat of flamingos.

You can get information about the delta in the visitor center, which serves every day of the week, and watch the flamingos thanks to the camera system installed in the area. In front of the visitor center, you can reach the Bird Watch Towers located at different points of the area by foot or by bicycle, and observe the birds and other wildlife in natural environment.
