  SELLUKA CERTIFICATE AND PLAQUE

İzmir is one of the most important attraction points of our country with its historical and natural treasures as well as its cultural values. No doubt, one of the first things that come to mind when we talk about cultural values is its food culture.

For thousands of years, Izmir has hosted many different civilizations and blended all kinds of cultural values therefore it has become one the richest cities in our country in terms of food and beverage culture.

Especially recently, Gastronomy, also mainly known as fondness to delicious food, the art of food, master of food or food science is transformed and presented to the world as a part of tourism. This growing trend of Gastronomy tourism covers an important part of both our country's and the world's tourism.

As the Directorate of Culture and Tourism, we organized a workshop for “the Historical Kemeraltı Renovation Area” with our partners on April 18, 2018, within the scope of many endeavors we carried out in the historical Kemeraltı Bazaar, which is considered the heart of İzmir. The workshop covers an area of 252 hectares referred to as the Historical Kemeraltı Renovation Area, determined by the Council of Ministers' decision no 2007/12668 on 2007.

This workshop with all the partners aims to make the food and beverage businesses surrounding the area follow the hygiene criteria as a priority and promote these businesses. Accordingly, “the Selluka Certificate and Plaque” Project have been brought into force.

The project took about two years under the coordination of the Directorate, with the partnership of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Konak Municipality, Konak District Governorate, Provincial Directorate of Health, Konak Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Dokuz Eylül University, Yasar University, Izmir University of Economics, Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Izmir Representative of Türkiye Restaurateurs and Pastry Federation, Izmir Chamber of Tourist Guides, Representative Board of TURSAB Aegean Region, Izmir Development Agency, Aegean Union of Touristic Business and Accommodations and Historical Kemeralti Construction Investment Trade Inc. and the project was first decided to get implemented within the “Historical Kemeraltı Renovation Area”.

Accordingly, the Selluka Certificate and Plaque Project aims to evaluate the "Diners/Restaurants", "Fast-food places"  and "Businesses Selling Food Products" in the Historical Kemeraltı Renovation Area according to criteria such as the quality of local food and service, customer satisfaction and gastronomical value and give the "Selluka Certificate and Plaque" to the businesses deemed appropriate as a part of food security.
