BALÇOVA THERMAL-AGAMEMNON HOT SPRINGS

Balçova Thermal, named after Agamemnon, King of Mycenae who attacked the city of Troy, has been used for centuries since ancient times as a healing centre, as narrated in the epics of Homeros and the works of Strabon, the geographer. Historical records suggest that a part of Alexander the Great’s army was treated here; however, there is no physical evidence of this incident. The Agamemnon Hot Springs was rediscovered by a Frenchman named Elfont Mil and was rebuilt and later improved by accommodation and various facilities to this day. 

There are hot waters, mud baths, and drinking water. Balçova Thermal has been the centre of attention since it uses the resources of modern science as treatment methods; for domestic and international visitors, especially from Norway. The water temperature of the hot spring is 63 degrees Celsius; the radioactivity ratio is 3.3, and the healing water contains sodium bicarbonate and chloride. Agamemnon Hot Springs is particularly beneficial in the treatments of chronic inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, nephritis, other inflammations, rheumatic syndromes, metabolic disorders, and skin diseases.

BAYINDIR THERMAL

Bayındır Thermal; is located in the northeast of the district on the way of Turgutlu, and it consists of Ergenli and Dereköy Hot Springs, which both are at 8 kilometres distance from Bayındır Thermal. The water temperature in these hot springs, which are 15 minutes away from each other, is around 40 degrees Celsius, and the water contains; sulphur, sodium, and bicarbonate. The thermal is popular because of its success in the treatment of rheumatism and skin diseases.

BERGAMA - DEREKÖY THERMAL

The Dereköy Thermal is located 15 kilometres east of Altınova and has only 1 Turkish bath, and its water is useful for soreness.

BERGAMA - GEYİKLİDAĞ THERMAL

Geyiklidağ Thermal, 4 kilometres away from the district centre, was founded during the reign of King Eumenes of Pergamon. It has been preserving its reputation for centuries under the name of “Eskülap Banyoları (Asklepios Baths). The thermal, also known as “Güzellik Ilıcası (Beauty Thermal), has a domed shape and two hot spring pools covered with marble. There are bungalows and a hotel provided by Bergama Municipality right next to the thermal in the woods. The water, with a temperature around 35 degrees Celsius, has sodium bicarbonate and sulphur. It is helpful for rheumatism, nephralgia, cardiovascular diseases, neurological skin diseases, and mental stability. Hot spring waters are considered to have a beautifier effect on oily and seborrheic skin types. That is why it was narrated that Cleopatra visited the Pergamon Kingdom and took a bath in the waters of Geyiklidağ Thermal, later, she became even more prettier than before. The thermal has a very high radioactivity ratio which is 1.5.

BERGAMA - HAYDAR THERMAL

The thermal, located in the village of Ilıca, a joint of the Kozak District, is on the north of Bergama. Those who severely suffer from skin diseases and painful musculoskeletal disorders can benefit from the hot and sulphurous waters of the thermal. There is no facility except a Turkish bath inherited from Ancient Roman Empire.

BERGAMA - MAHMUDİYE THERMAL

The water temperature of Mahmudiye Thermal, which has a high radioactivity rate and is rich in sodium, is around 26 degrees Celsius. Thermal waters are used as bleach by local people since it lacks calcium. It is also known that water is beneficial for skin diseases.

BERGAMA - PAŞA THERMAL

Paşa Thermal, located in the Paşa Village, which is 15 kilometres north, has low temperatures and poor in minerals. It is used both for bathing and in the treatment of chronic rheumatism, metabolism disorders, old-age indulgence, fatigue, and kidney and gynaecological diseases. In addition to these, its waters can be used to soften open wounds.

ÇEŞME - MALKOÇ SPRINGS

Malkoç Springs, located on 41 kilometres of the İzmir-Çeşme highway, is in the region called “İçmeler” and has carbon-dioxide and sodium chloride. There are facilities both for camping and accommodation. The water spring near the seaside is helpful for gastrointestinal disorders.

ÇEŞME THERMAL

The thermal, located on the İzmir-Çeşme highway near the seaside, has a temperature of around 58 degrees Celsius. It is among the rarest thermals in the world where the beach and the spring are present in the same place. Thermal waters contain sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and magnesium chloride, which all of them are helpful in the curing process of all chronic forms of rheumatism, metabolic disorders such as gout, and obesity, as well as rachitism, gynaecological diseases, skin diseases, painful diseases of the liver and urinary tract.

ÇEŞME - ŞİFNE THERMAL

It is located northeast of the Çeşme Thermal and on the Şifne Gulf. The thermal has a temperature of around 38 degrees Celsius, a radioactivity ratio of 5.3, facilities for accommodation, food and beverage courts, and a large pool and baths appropriate for families. The thermal water rich in sodium chloride and calcium is known for its benefits in healing rheumatism, rachitism, gynaecological and urinary tract diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, and skin diseases such as eczema and furuncles.

DİKİLİ - BADEMLİ THERMAL

Bademli Thermal is 15 kilometres away from the Dikili district centre and has a temperature of around 45 degrees Celsius, has arsenic and hydro acetate.

DİKİLİ- KAYNARCA

Kaynarca Thermal, also known as Kaynarca Mud, is a reedy and marshy region with a diameter of 3 kilometres. It is located 10 kilometres east of Dikili and has boiling water with very high temperatures in the middle. Kaynarca Thermal’s water is good for skin diseases and sore gynaecological disorders.

DİKİLİ - NEBİLER THERMAL

Nebiler Thermal, with a temperature between 55-75 degrees Celsius, is located on the right side of the Dikili-Ayvalık highway. The water contains acetate ions. Nebiler Thermal has various facilities where humane needs can be met.

GÜLBAHÇE THERMAL

Gülbahçe Thermal, located on the seaside of the Gülbahçe Gulf, also has a Turkish bath within. The water with a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius is also effective for curing skin diseases and easing rheumatism. Thermal is 15 kilometres away from the Urla district centre.

MENEMEN - BİLİÇYA THERMAL

Biliçya Thermal is located on the northwest of the Menemen district and west side of Ilıcagöl Swamp. The way of treatment, which is applied with water and mud bath in the hot and sulphurous waters of Biliçya, has a positive effect on easing rheumatism, skin diseases, and passing kidney stones and gallstones. There are no other facilities except a simple thermal facility. The swamp, surrounded by walls, has warm mud.

MENEMEN - DENİZ THERMAL

Deniz Thermal is located northwest of the Menemen district, and its waters boil in a cave. In ancient times, the spring was made to remain inside the natural basin by chipping the rocks. The fractures, which their boils delayed due to traumatic causes, have valuable impacts on some musculoskeletal diseases and bloodstream disorders.

SEFERİHİSAR- CUMALI THERMAL

Cumalı Thermal is located on the skirts of the Kovacık Village, which is 15 kilometres from southeast of Seferihisar, and has water temperatures between 55-65 degrees Celsius. Its salty water is rich in carbon dioxide and has immense benefits for easing rheumatism, skin diseases, upper respiratory infections, and healing fractures.

SEFERİHİSAR - KARAKOÇ THERMAL

Karakoç Thermal, located near the Kavakdere Village which is 17 kilometres southeast of Seferihisar, has waters rich in carbon dioxide, sodium chloride, and bicarbonate. Spring waters are beneficial in curing rheumatism, skin diseases, and rachitism. When used as drinking water, it helps the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.

SEFERİHİSAR- KELALAN THERMAL

Kelalan Thermal, located 20 kilometres east of Seferihisar, has waters with very high temperatures, and its waters are effective in the treatment of rheumatism and skin diseases.
