WINDSURF

Windsurf is one of the rarest activities that gives extreme adrenalin, a feeling of freedom and adventure, both as a water and an outdoor sport. There are a lot of appropriate places to windsurf in our country, surrounded by seas on three sides. However, among all, Alaçatı is the most famous one, with an exquisite bay for windsurfing. Therefore, the most prestigious international windsurf contests are held in Alaçatı. Every year, thousands of people come to Alaçatı to experience windsurfing, to participate in some competitions, and for recreational purposes.

The Natural Alaçatı Port is known to be the most convenient place on earth for windsurfing with its calm sea despite the constant and harsh wind. It is possible to see the windsurfers who come to Alaçatı around the world during the windy season between May and October. What makes Alaçatı a compelling, safe, and an exclusive bay is its very shallow sea water, and its wind creates waves because it blows from the north from mid-June until mid-September and usually from the south from October to April. Windsurfing becomes smoother thanks to the wind and the flow moving in the same direction. Among the places that have the north winds, Alaçatı is arguably the safest place. The dominant wind of the region is the northern wind, but breezes, southwesters, northeasters, and Gerence wind can be seen throughout the year.

Alaçatı is the perfect training field for beginners, and there are a lot of institutions for windsurfing. For this reason, Alaçatı is an important windsurf centre for beginners and professionals.

Besides Alaçatı, windsurfing and kitesurfing can be experienced in Çeşme, Dikili-Çandarlı, Seferihisar, Menderes, Urla-İçmeler, and Güzelbahçe in İzmir. At the beginning of the tourism season, the parkours for these sports are chosen and announced by the İzmir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism annually.
