Eurasian Kingfisher

The family expands from Africa to Australia. Its main origin is Asia. Their heads are large, their necks are short, and their beaks are long and strong. They are 28 cm. There are approximately four races. The flying of Izmir Eurasian kingfisher is fast and furious. It has short wings. Its legs are bright red.     4-7 eggs are incubated at once. They live on forest and freshwater edges. The diving depth was estimated at 1 meter. They feed on insects and fish. Their nests are usually in tree hollows. They have been observed in *Gediz Delta, *Izmir/Bakırçay Delta - Izmir/Alsancak Pasaport Ferry Pier.

They are creatures with the potential to catch their prey in 1.3 seconds.

In some regions, the kingfisher is called”Marine".
