Bikur Holim Synagogue on İkiçeşmelik Street was built for the first time by Salomon de Ciaves of Dutch origin living in İzmir. It was rebuilt by Manuel de Ciaves in 1800 to replace this first synagogue that had been destroyed in a fire that burned the city (1772). Today, Bikur Holim, the most beautiful synagogue in İzmir, still maintains its appearance of those days.
