Beit Israeli Synagogue:

In 1905, according to the edict which Abdulhamid II wrote to the governor of İzmir, the former Grand Vizier Kamil Pasha, in order to allow the Jews living in Karatas to perform their religious prayers a permition was given in 1904 for the construction of the Karatas Beit Israel Synagogue, and the construction started in 1905. The synagogue commenced to serve in 1907. It is the first building in Izmir which was built under influence of Italian architectural style. Beit Israel, the largest synagogue in Izmir, is still used extensively today. Since it is made with Italian influence, it has a church-style linear plan. The main place of the synagogue is accessed through an entrance hall. Mehizah section surrounds the interior place as a "U" planned gallery.
