Saint Antoine Catholic Church

It is a Catholic Church located between 1610, 1611 and 1641 streets in Bayraklı Fuat Edip Baksı Neighborhood in Karşıyaka district. The foundations of the church were laid in 1902 and the first floor was completed in the same year. It was opened in 1902 with a ceremony attended by the Deputy Pope of the time. In the following periods, a monastery and an Italian school with six classes were built and a cemetery which could not survive till today was added next to the church.

The church has a rectangular plan and is made of cut stone and brick. The three-part apse is protruding outwards and is covered by a hipped roof. The church has thin, long, round arched windows in gothic style. One of the bell towers of the church was destroyed during the earthquake and only the cut-stone tower adjacent to the main place has survived till today.

The church was damaged in the earthquake of 1966, it was repaired in 1990 together with the monastery next to it and it has survived to the present day in good condition.
