Lebedos (Menderes)

The city, which was established between the regions Gümüldür and Ürkmez on the peninsula known as Kısık today, was one of the 12 Ionian cities and dates back to 7th century BC. The people of this antique city were forcibly brought from Efes and they could never manage to attain a powerful existence. However, it is one of the cities in the history to have their own coins. There is not much left from the city to our day. But some ruins belonging to the Hellenistic walls on the harbor, parts of the Gymnasium, the temple terrace and the houses located on the hillside behind Gymnasium can still be seen.
