It is just on the north of Menemen. The city was established in the 3rd Millenium BC. It survived during Polished Stone Age, Hellenistic Period, Lydians and Persians. Although it was rebuilt after the demolition of Peleponese wars (405 BC), it was destroyed again by the Galatians (279 BC). Among the ruins a temple and some parts of the city wall in Acropolis are found. Architectural fragments belonging to archaic period are in İzmir Archeological Museum and the other artefacts are exhibited in the archaeological museums of Stockholm and İstanbul.
Surface studies were initiated by the Swedish archaeologists in 1902 and continued until 1932-1934 as a German - Swedish joint excavation project. Larissa excavations are one of the most efficacious researches in Western Anatolia. Foundlings of Larissa are among the best examples of 6,5-4th century BC Aeol architecture known to date.
