The first zoo of Türkiye was built in İzmir Kültürpark area in 1937 on an 18-acre area.
On 30 thNovember 2008, a 425-acre area in Sasalı-Çiğli region has been converted to Türkiye's first Wildlife Park.
The Wildlife Park is a member of the the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.
Animals live here in their natural habitats without cages and wires. There are approximately 1500 animals from 120 species as well as 3000 trees and 250 plant species.
In the Wildlife Park, there are walking tracks and watch towers for visitors to see the animals in their natural environment.
At the entrance of the park there is a 8,450 square-meter pond where many aquatic birds live.
In the park, there are playgrounds with manege, where children can ride horses, as well as stables and poultry sections.
In most part of the park, there is almost no artificial visual seperators such as cage and wires between visitors and animals. Instead of these reagents, natural seperators such as water ponds and ditches are used in accordance with nature.
In İzmir Wildlife Park, there is also a kitchen for nutrition of animals, feed warehouse, workshop, dining hall, quarantine, education-conference and exhibition hall, as well as a visitor parking lot with a capacity of 500 cars.
